Shiq Bey is an independent hip hop artist that takes pride in his ability to switch between conscious, self-reflecting lyrics and gritty, street rap. He’s from a small town called Willingboro NJ which bred more than a few music industry greats such as Mike Zombie, Ant Clemons, and Tdot iLLdude to name a few. His most recent release is a track called Miami for the Weekend, which he plans to release a music video for in the next coming weeks. Shiq Bey is the perfect balance between “street” and “woke” and plans to drop an EP sometime this year, but keep an eye out for new music and content to be released every other week until the release of the untitled EP.
Here is Shiq Bey in a conversation with GOGO Magazine.

My journey as an artist began in 2013 when my best friend convinced me to start recording music.

My first track was was called Goddess featuring Judaea.
3) Which has been your favorite genre?
My favorite genre of music to listen to is R&B but my favorite to make is Hip Hop.
4) Who has been your inspiration?
My biggest musical inspiration has to be my best friend Mike Zombie. I feel like he’s so diverse and dynamic musically.
5) Where do you see yourselves in the next 5 years?
In the next five years, I see myself continuing to make music that can have an impact on my fans and listeners. I plan to land some of my music in film and television.
6) Which has been your most memorable performance?
My most memorable performance was probably at Uptown Open Mic in Philadelphia. There was a ton of people there and I was shooting a music video during my performance.
7) Tell us about your latest track.
My latest track is called Miami for the Weekend. I recently went to Miami with one of my best friends Rich, who is a videographer, for a short vacation so we didn’t sleep much. We spent the whole weekend getting lit and having fun. We also shot a video which will be dropping soon.

8) Tell us about the music scenes in Willingboro.
Willingboro NJ is a small town outside of Philadelphia but you would be surprised to know how many musical talents came out of this area. There aren’t many venues to perform music at in Willingboro, but there are a ton of creatives and studios to visit there.
9) How was life in quarantine?
Life in quarantine has been surprisingly good to me. I got promoted at work, and I’ve been able to spend a lot more time creating music. I used to go to studios to record, but quarantine has given me an opportunity to learn how to record myself so I’ve been able to create a lot more content.
