Here is Zayn Raza in a conversation with GOGO Magazine.

1) When did your journey as a musician begin?

It started in 2010 when I joined for my IIT-JEE preparation course. I met few guys in coaching and made a band named “Fusion”. I was a songwriter for the band. Later band couldn’t sustain and I went for my engineering and later started my solo in college.

2) Why did you come up with the name Zayn Raza?

Well, you will need to check with my parents..haha..coz they were the ones to give me the name Zayn (it’s my nickname)…and Raza is my family name. As I’ve such a long name (Syed Mohammad Ali Raza) everyone in my college started calling me Zayn and later I started performing by this name only.

3) Which was your first song?

The first song that I Composed was “Mahiya”. It’s still very close to me.

4) Which has been your most memorable live performance?

My most memorable live performance was in IIIT- Allahabad where I won “National Level Unplugged Live Event”. There I played my original Mahiya for the very 1st time.

5)  Who has been your inspiration?

Well, there’s one song which inspired me to get into music and that song is “Aadat” – by Jal Band. I started listening to all the songs by Jal and then later I started exploring more bands like Fuzon, Call, Strings, Entity Paradigm, Noori, Roxen, Raeth etc. Now I keep getting inspired by different kinda music and genres. I listen to different language songs as well to learn and enhance my music skills. I made the cover of “Aadat” the song which inspired me to get into music. It was always my dream to make this song in my way.

6) Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

I see myself and my Band working really hard in the coming days. Making more songs, doing live shows. Five years is a long time, but I daresay, I see myself on the international music map, somewhere…recognised!

7) Which is your most preferred genre?

I’m mostly into Rock. (Alternative Rock)

8) Tell us about your latest track.

As I’ve two artist profile in music. One as “Zayn Raza” which is my individual artistry and other as member of “SAZA The Band”. So in my individual solo, my latest track is “Toh Phir Aao” We all know this song by heart. I always wanted to make my version of this beautiful composition.

And in band, our latest song is “Zindagi”. We made this song in 48 hrs. From writing the lyrics to Composition and finally producing it. It was kind of a roller coaster for us but we hell enjoyed. The song is all about the journey from your childhood to adulthood. How things change in life. How reality hits you hard.

9) Tell us about the music scenes in Bihar.

In Bihar, the music scene is getting broad. Many good artists are coming out. People are now encouraging some new music, new genres.

10) How was life in quarantine?

Life in Quarantine came as a blessing in disguise for me, rather ironically. I got more time to invest in my music. Created new songs, did more interactive Insta live sessions met new musicians around the globe. So all in all it wasn’t that bad.
