Here is Omar in a conversation with GOGO Magazine.

1) When did your journey as a musician begin?

My dad had a keyboard/piano laying around the house that no one really used, I loved experimenting and playing around with it – I was only 6-7 at the time. Once I turned around 10, I took coaching for a few months, after which I continued to self-learn the piano.

2) Tell us more about your life as a pianist.

The piano was more than just an instrument to me, it became a way of expressing my feelings. It gave me the ability to express myself better than I could with words. The freedom of making your own compositions, and the beauty of the melodies, always was what made me love it so much.

3) Which has been your first track?

My first track was named “Raasta” – which was a melodic rap song with a really catchy hook.

4) Who has been your inspiration?

Growing up I was a huge huge fan of bands – Coldplay, Maroon 5, The Script, Linkin Park, One Republic, and artists such as Ed Sheeran, Adam Levine. All these artists developed my music taste, and I took inspiration from every single one of them.

5) Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

I was asked this question two years ago, and my answer was completely different compared to what it would be today because I guess a person’s goals keep changing. One thing that’s for sure though is that I’ll still be following and doing what I love, enjoying myself while I’m at it.

6)How would you describe your music?

In very simple words, just an expression of something I am truly feeling. I can’t write about something that I have not experienced – because that’s what music is for me – an outlet.

7) Which has been your most memorable song or project?

My most memorable song has to be a collaboration I did with two of the top names in Pakistani Hip Hop. It was called Superstar (featuring Sunny Khan Durrani and CHEN-K). I had to go to another city for the video shoot of the song, and working with such experienced artists, living with them, was an amazing experience.

8)What advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

Always follow your dreams, take them side by side with your life. It really isn’t possible to leave everything, your job, your studies, and solely pursue music. If you truly love it, you’ll take it hand in hand with whatever else you have going on in your life.

9)Share some of your achievements with the magazine.

As a pianist, I have won over 15 local music competitions and 1 international competition.

As a musician, my songs have accumulated over 3 million streams, and I’ve been featured on 4 Spotify playlists.

10)How was life in quarantine?

It was interesting, to say the least. It was difficult to say productive when all you could do was stay at home all day, but I managed. Having my entire studio setup at home was a blessing.
