1) When did your journey as a musician begin?
I started writing songs when I was 16 but back then I had no idea that I would end up taking music as a career. Once I started working in an oil rig, my writing and music both came to a halt. That’s when I discovered my love and passion for music. I would perhaps call this the beginning of my musical journey.
2) Which was your first song?
As an independent artist, My first song was ‘Tu jo paas’ which I released in 2018 on YouTube.
3) Which has been the most memorable performance?
Well, I have vivid memories of this one performance I did back in 2014 with my former band ‘melodic reign’. We went to perform for an event held in ‘Chhayagaon’, a place situated in the Kamrup District of Assam. We were more than excited. It was around 1 AM, when it started raining heavily and we were still backstage, watching other artists perform. It was disheartening for us, as in such a downpour, no one would stick around for the rest of the night. Surprisingly, when we went on stage at around 3 AM, the crowd was still there, waiting for us to perform. They were cheering us and started singing along. I have few words to describe the precise feeling of that moment. This, by far, has been the most memorable one.
4) Who has been your inspiration?
Even before I started my journey in music, Aamir Khan is the artist who has been one of my biggest inspirations. His thought process and his ability to make smart choices has greatly influenced me in my own career. I like sticking to an idea until it is well-nourished and I have worked on all of its minutest detailing. Only then I put it out for my audience. Also, the way most of his films carry a message for the society, I too believe in making a change through my art.
5) What are the music scenes in Assam?
Since a long while, music scene of Assam has predominantly been independent. People here enjoy both indigenous folk and modern music. Lately, electronic and indie music has made it’s way to the hearts of the Assamese people. In the last few years, many new artists have come up and taken the music scene to a whole different level.
6) Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
To be honest, I don’t see myself in some specific place or position over the next five years. I just want to polish my skills, learn more and explore more in the field of music. I hope to release all my unreleased songs in the coming days. Also, I have plans for some music videos. Roughly, this is all that I have thought for the next five years.
7) Which is your most preferred genre?
Generally, I listen to a wide variety of genres but if I have to specify, I mostly connect to the genre I’m working on right now i.e., Western Folk Music and its sub-genres.
8) Tell us about your latest track.
It has been quite a while since I released my last track. I released it back in 2020 and it’s called ‘Farq Hai’. Basically, it depicts the double-faced disposition of society. The ditty talks about the dim view an individual possesses about themselves as a consequence of social evils like racial discrimination and classism. The despondency and inferiority complex is expressed in the form of a love song.
9) How was life in quarantine?
I have always been homesick. So, for me, nothing much had changed in the lifestyle during quarantine. However, the catastrophe that the nation was/is facing is heart-wrenching to see.
