Our sense of smell is one of the strongest memory we sustain throughout life. It’s called olfactory memory. Olfactory memory refers to the recollection of odours. When a smell is detected, the olfactory neurones in the upper part of the nose generate an impulse that is passed to the brain along the olfactory nerve.

The part of the brain this arrives at first is called the olfactory bulb which processes the signal and then passes information about the smell to other areas closely connected to it, collectively known as the limbic system. The limbic system comprises a set of structures within the brain that are regarded by scientists as playing a major role in controlling mood, memory, behaviour and emotion.

In fact fragrance, it seems might be the key to understanding and solving many problems of the human brain including depression, anxiety and nervousness. And what better and more affordable way to tickle those smell sensors than fragrant candles.

Just light a flicker of flame and within seconds the mood floats you into a beautiful softness of your mother’s hands or your first trip to the seaside or that first date and the roses you held. Possibilities are endless. As endless as our beautiful memories tend to cloud over and need to be revived back especially in pandemic times and that’s what prompted this homemaker to start her homegrown brand of fragrant and beautiful looking candles.

Crafting candles

Kamdlekraft is a pun on the beautiful craft of making fragrant candles just like the company that was the brainchild of Shveta Vij from Punjab’s money capital Ludhiana. Shveta’s love for crafting beautiful spaces for her home and friends and enhancing it with fragrant candles led her to study the art form deeply after several in-depth courses and hands-on training sessions she decided to start her own homegrown totally, sustainable and cherished brand of handcrafted candles as Kamdlekraft. Kamdlekraft does some uniquely designed fables in wax from hand-pressed orange candles(to revive that ‘Nani ke Ghar ka Sardi wala feel’ when she peeled oranges and fed you) to sun-dried flowers embedded in your candles with a whiff of the soft potpourri of memories(first date first romance first puja).

Her range of candles might astound you, especially the ones that come in reusable jars for sustainable efforts or the non-polluting gel candles Eco friendly efforts and totally organic raw materials especially sourced from local areas are the signature of her brand. In fact at most events and pop up shows you might find her candles being the show stopper with their ethereal beauty that you might not even wanna light. And keep as just a centrepiece.

And being the innovative woman that she is she went a step ahead with personalised picture candles and thought candles with beautiful quotes written for the perfect gist and your signature fragrance- from coffee to cinnamon to French vanilla or Indian daisies and saffron to chai scented candles for your home office or personal spaces. Talking about it Shveta says that she was surprised at the response both online and offline not only from individual buyers but also from corporate houses for bulk gifting or as add ons to gifts which was a niche she never thought existed.

Another thing that surprised her was the orders from hotels and especially refers to a particular hotel in Rajasthan for home she made a unique ongoing pillar candle with embedded tea lights. The pillar candles need not burn only tea lights do and are changed without compromising on the looks but giving her clients value for money.

A brand ethos that Kamdlekraft follows— value for money! But you might not care for the money once you peep into her unique world of seashell candles or wooden candles . The innovations and pivoting to newer forms every day —-endless! It’s truly another world out there full of beauty and that makes you go aahhhhhh!
