Sergio Aguero will depart Manchester City at the end of the season, according to the club. Aguero’s deal at the Etihad Stadium will expire in the summer, and he will be free to depart. The club has announced that the striker will be honoured with a statue alongside former teammates Vincent Kompany and David Silva at the Etihad Stadium.
“It gives me great pleasure to announce that we will be commissioning an artist to create a statue of Sergio to live at the Etihad Stadium alongside the ones under construction for Vincent [Kompany] and David [Silva],” Al Mubarak said.
“AGUEROOOOOO… I swear you’ll never see anything like this ever again!” Martin Tyler, the iconic announcer, rose to the occasion with one word – “AGUERO!” with as many o’s as you like based on your passion for City – ringing out as the striker slashed the ball past Paddy Kenny. Tyler, by all accounts, violated one of the cardinal laws of commentary by announcing. “I swear you’ll never see anything like this ever again! So watch it, drink it in.”
Sergio Aguero netted one of the most dramatic Premier League goals of all time on this day in 2012. Manchester City was top of the Premier League by goal difference heading into their final game of the 2011/12 season, and only needed to equal Man United’s score against Sunderland on the final day of the season to be crowned champions for the first time in 44 years – but it seemed as if QPR had spoiled their big day. With City trailing the west Londoners 2-1 in extra time in front of a shocked Etihad crowd, United was crushing the Black Cats 1-0 to leave their rivals needing two goals. In the 92nd minute, Edin Dzeko equalised to set up a grandstand finale… and with United players eagerly expecting news at the Stadium of Light, Mario Balotelli teed up Aguero and the rest is history.
Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero is without a doubt an Etihad legend. The Argentine striker is also one of the best to have ever kicked a goal on English turf. Any of the absurd milestones he set while wearing the blue jersey demonstrate that he belongs in the elite. As his alleged departure to the English giants approaches, here are some of his legendary history.

- Sergio ‘Kun’ Aguero is the Premier League’s fourth-highest scorer of all time. Just Alan Shearer (260 goals), Wayne Rooney (208) and Andy Cole (187) have more than him.
- Sergio Aguero is the Premier League’s highest-ever foreign scorer, with 182 goals.
- Sergio Aguero is Manchester City’s all-time leading scorer. As he scored his 178th goal in 2017, he shattered Eric Brook’s 78-year streak.
- Aguero scored at least 20 goals in each of the previous five seasons, becoming just the second player after Thierry Henry to do so.
- Sergio Aguero has the most Premier League hat-tricks, with 12 to his credit, the first coming in a 3-0 win over Wigan on 10 September 2011 and the most recent in a 6-1 victory over Aston Villa last January.
Sergio Aguero seems to be on track to fulfil his vow as Manchester City takes on Chelsea in the Champions League final on Saturday, May 29. If they triumph, Aguero would have practically fulfilled his 2014 vow to the club’s supporters that he will not depart until they won the Champions League.
“Not only will I stay the four [remaining] years to make it eight here in total, I’ll stay beyond that — until we win it.”
