Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), the local subsidiary of the South Korean carmakers planned the debut of the third generation of the Elite i20 at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show but the pandemic led this plan to a dead-end. The new i20 did make its debut online and was expected to launch in the first half of the year but got postponed. Now the third generation of the Elite i20 is expected to go on sale around the festive season.
EXTERIOR:
The revamped third-gen i20 even bolder and stylish than the previous-gen i20 which was a huge success. The front profile features a wide cascading grille, dagger-shaped headlamps with LED DRLs on both ends followed by a wide air dam with faux lip spoiler in the lower bumper with air vents housing fog lamps on both ends.
The side profile features blacked-out ORVMs, chrome window lining, machine-cut dual-tone alloy wheels and a rear quarter glass in the C-pillars. While on the rear profile, it features a wraparound tail lamps connected through a red reflector strip, roof-mounted spoiler, shark-fin antenna and faux diffuser.
INTERIOR:
The revamped interior of the next-gen i20 will feature some major changes like a luxury dashboard, a 10.25-inch floating-type infotainment system with common features like Apple car play, Android Auto, navigation etc. The car is also expected to offer Blue Link car tech, ambient lights and an all-digital instrument cluster (not sure for India variant).
PERFORMANCE:
The third gen Elite i20 will be offered in 3 variants.
- A 1.2 ltr Kappa MPi BS6 petrol engine offering a total power of 83PS at 6000rpm and 114Nm of peak torque at 4000Nm. It comes in both automatic and manual options paired with 5-speed MT and IVT(CVT).
- A 1.0 ltr Kappa Turbo GDi BS6 engine offering a total power of 120PS at 6000rpm and 172Nm of peak torque at 4000rpm. It comes in both automatic and manual options paired with 6-speed MT and 7-speed DCT AT.
- A 1.5 ltr U2 CRDi BS6 diesel engine offering a total power of 100PS at 4000rpm and 240Nm of peak torque at 2750Nm. It comes in only a manual option paired with 6-speed MT.
