Here is Ajitabha Bose in a conversation with GOGO Magazine.
1) How did your journey as a writer begin?
I started writing when I was a kid. Bein brought up in a Bengali family, I was always interested in literature, my mother used to recite poems of Rabindranath Tagore and my father used to read stories of Rabindranath Tagore. So, it was always natural, I used to contribute to my school’s magazine but I think when I came to college I started reading novels and then I got inspired and starting writing stories on Orkut and then Facebook came so I started writing there, then on Blogs. My friends motivated me to publish my work officially so that’s how I started in the year 2013.
2) Who has been your inspiration?
My inspiration has been a lot of people, I think in a subconscious mind, I have always heard Rabindranath Tagore’s writing but novel writing, I was inspired by Sudeep Nagarakar.
3) Tell us about your publishing venture and BDL Studios.
I starting BDL studios way back in 2011 when I was in college. It was a small production house back then and now it is a decade old ad agency which produces short films, web series and music videos etc. We have tie-ups with Hotstar and other platforms as well. We do commercial and act shoots. I personally started my publishing house in 2020 as a startup and to date, we have published over 40 books in less than 6 months and I have termed it as a modern traditional publishing house where we are offering free book publishing offers for new authors.
4) How difficult is it to get a book published?
It is difficult anymore to publish your book. There is a number of self-publishing houses in India where you can pay and get your book published. Yes, it’s difficult to get popular with books as there is less reading habit in India but I am glad that the reader’s count has gained subsequently and I hope in next few years there is gonna be a good number of readers and writers as well. It is difficult to get your books published in the old traditional publishing houses of India.
5) How much time does it take to complete a book?
Completely depends on author to author, if I talk about myself I take 2-3 months to complete a novel and if I talk about pocketbooks, it hardly takes 10 days. It completely depends on author to author.
6) Tell us about your book ‘In Love with Shahrukh Khan’.
This book is very close to me because this is the book that made my name and also it is very special because he is my idol and that is more special because he appreciated the book and tweeted about it. I also got a chance to meet him up and likely it was a magnanimous experience.
7) Tell us about your book ‘The YouTube stars of India’.
‘The YouTube stars of India’ is my first non-fiction book. It talks about the journey of some of the top YouTubers of the country including Carryminati, Amit Bhadana, Ashish Chanchalani, Technical Guruji, Prajakta Koli, Harsh Beniwal, Flying Beast, Shruti Arjun Anand, Mortal, Vinay Thakur, RVCJ Media, Vipul Goyal, Mumbiker Nikhil, Jannat Zubair & Kunal Chhabhria. It’s more of a book about how their journey has started and how it worked for them. It’s a brief about their early days. It’s one of a kind and is an authorized biography.
8) How was your experience as a filmmaker in the industry.
It has been a tremendous experience, I have been doing filmmaking for more than a decade now, every day a new thing, a surreal experience, you get to meet a lot of known faces of the industry and working with them is a new experience every day.
9) Which has been your most memorable moment in the life?
The most memorable moment of my life is when I met Shahrukh Khan first time in 2016. It was such a surreal experience. He has been my idol and then I always wanted to meet him. Then I met him on his birthday. I was invited for his birthday to Taj, Mumbai. I can’t explain and describe the moment, it was one of the best.
10) Tell us about your next book.
My next book is a biography of one of the most popular faces of India, Kapil Sharma. I am very excited about the book and hoping to revisit very soon, just waiting for the right time. As soon as the time will get better, I will release the book.
