Q. What does your artwork represent?
I want my colored pencil and pastel work to represent the spirit of the subject I draw. For that to happen, I’ll invest many hours into the small details – especially the eyes. When I work for clients on special pet portrait, I’ll ask about their pet’s personality and do my best to use their description to help me recreate what makes their pet special on paper.
Q. What inspires you?
I enjoy color and texture. I have been working with pastels since 2018 and I enjoy the versatility of the medium to create sharp and soft textures. I’ve come across brilliant pastelists on Instagram and YouTube who are a constant source of inspiration. I have a lengthy list of art experiments that I want to try with solvents, brushes, sandpaper, and gesso.
Q. What does your art mean to you?
When I make art, it doesn’t necessarily have to have a complex meaning behind its existence. The process of a drawing is exciting, therapeutic, and challenging at different stages of its development over time. Every drawing is a journey within itself and I try to find ways to explore and push the limits of the medium that I work in.
