Q. Why did you make this artwork?
One of the most basic principles of interior design is that every room needs a focal point, or a single design element that will instantly draw the eye into the space so I wanted to design the art piece in a way that it has a central focus point. Being an ARCHITECT, there is always a sense of belonging to a space. This is why the art piece has been conceptualized to be something more interesting than just a 2D painting.
Being a MIXED MEDIA artist, different mediums and 3D objects have been combined to give a depth effect to space. Giving a rich and luxury feel is also a part of ideation over the art piece. The whole idea is to add visual weight to the interior space, which help determine the tone of the room and how it feels. This artwork could be used in an entrance foyer, living room, bedroom, hotels, restaurants, bars, etc.
Q. How you made this artwork?
There are 3 main elements used in this artwork-
1. Texture – White coloured texture is given using texture white acrylic colour over the black acrylic colour base on canvas. Textures always helps to give a 3D effect and layers an interior space. The rough texture here is more likely to make a space feel intimate and warm.
2. Golden colour – Golden acrylic colour is used as highlights over the white texture. Being a metallic colour, it leads in that bright accent to space. Also, tiny golden beads with golden lining are placed over a mirror which shines and reflects back in the mirror overall making space look brighter.
3. Use of mirror – A huge piece of mirror is placed in the center. Mirror being a reflective material makes space look larger. So, more than the design it is all about what effect the artwork will have on a space 🙂
Q. Who inspires you to be an artist?
I’ve always enjoyed making handmade things. Even as a little kid I played with clay in a very serious way, trying to make each object as perfect as possible. Attracted to all sorts of unusual objects, I would collect things on trips like stones, shells, interesting sticks and would always make something out of it after coming home. I pursued commerce for high school and joined art classes just as a hobby.
My art teacher then was my biggest source of motivation. He encouraged me to push the boundaries and think outside of the box. I would study the whole day and would reserve night time to do artworks when everyone in the house slept. I am essentially a “MIXED MEDIA” artist which includes combining different mediums and materials to create an art piece. This always let my creative juices flow. My aim always is to create something new, yet familiar, something that generates new curiosity for viewers of all ages. I grew up as a nerd kid and is an ARCHITECT now.
The question was what inspired me to be an artist but I would say ARTIST in me inspired me to choose a creative field and be an ARCHITECT. Art and Architecture together make a design that is functional as well as aesthetically appealing. In the end, it all lies in keen observation so what always struck me was the beauty of the natural world, the fascinating variety of shapes and colors, the beautiful texture around
and the joy I feel when working on something that will end up being much more than the sum of its individual parts.
