Q. What does your artwork represent?
My artwork represents a reflection of our precious animals that we share the world with. I want my animal paintings to capture the viewer’s imagination, and to get lost in the intricate details of each animal.
Q. What inspires you?
I am inspired by the patterns in nature. The tiger’s stripes, the rough folds of an elephant’s skin, the flowing mane of a large male lion. These are the driving forces behind my artwork, I am on a journey to try and perfect these in each painting I undertake. I love painting eyes and often start each painting with the eyes, I feel this is where the spirit lives, and getting this right will bring my paintings to life. Nature’s artwork is everywhere, we just have to slow down and look.
Q. What does your art mean to you?
My art is a vehicle to bring the presence of the elusive and wild animals into one’s home. I want the viewer to see and feel the animals I paint, to show people who may not be so fortunate to see these creatures in the wild. There is a deep primitive feeling in all of us when confronted by the raw power of these animals, it helps bring a sense of humility. My passion is for wildlife and it is my hope that this passion may be felt by those who view my artwork.
