“The youngest of the three islands”

Just off the northwest coast of Lombok, Indonesia; there is an archipelago of three small islands or Gili island triplets- Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air. Fringed by white-sand beaches and coconut palms, the islands are a vision of paradise. Each island has a distinct personality and the one with which we are going to match is Gili Trawangan.

Trawangan is the largest, liveliest, and most developed of these islands. It is a more cool, chilled out alternative to Bali. Gili T, as called by locals has a very friendly vibe and is full of people keen to know each other. The social atmosphere is a massive draw- each night of the week, a different club or dive center bar hosts a party, so everyone ends up in the same place. If you are not into partying, you can still enjoy spending time on Gili T with the scuba trips, freediving classes and sunbathing spots.

Tropical coral reefs, warm inviting waters and ominous dive sites like shark reef attracts a large number of tourists looking for remote island experience. No cars, no motorbikes and no distractions other than mesmerizing tropical island scenery. There’s a variety of accommodation on Gili T, with some quality hostels, bungalows and homestays on the main strip of the eastern side of the island and a vast choice of international restaurants and bars to suit all tastes, budgets and dietary needs.

The western part of the island is much quieter and is mostly occupied by serene high-end resorts. The southwestern point offers sensational sunsets, which serve as the backdrop for the epic happy hours at beach bars. Snorkelers should head to the northern part of the island for the best marine life, including turtles.

You can reach Gili T by a speedboat from Senggigi which takes around 20 minutes or by ferry that leaves Bali daily from Serangan or Padang Bai. On the island, you can only travel by bike or “cidomo” the small horse-drawn carts taking 3 persons per ride. Gili T is the perfect tropical getaway for the perfect vacation.
