With September almost over for the year 2020, the spread of Covid-19 can still be seen in many countries with the USA being the worst-hit country with 7.2 million cases and 209K deaths, followed by India with 5.99 million cases and 94K deaths. Out of the total number, 7.652 million people are still battling with the virus where 7.587 million are in mild condition and 65K are critical. More that 24.4 million people have recovered.
India, along with the WHO and the US, has said a vaccine with more than 50 percent efficacy will be acceptable, which means the vaccine must demonstrate it is at least 50 percent more effective than a placebo.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pledged at the United Nations that his country’s vaccine production capacity would be made available globally to fight the coronavirus crisis.
“As the largest vaccine-producing country of the world, I want to give one more assurance to the global community today,” Modi said in a prerecorded speech to the UN General Assembly.
Modi said India was moving ahead with phase three clinical trials – the large-scale trials considered the gold standard for determining safety and efficacy – and would help all countries enhance their cold chain and storage capacities for the delivery of vaccines.
