Q. What does your artwork represent?

I am a representational realist. For the last few years, I focused on portraiture. My work simply represents people that capture my attention. Sometimes those are the people I love other times strangers whose expression or gesture seemed special.

Q. What inspires you?

A lot of things inspire me. People inspire me the most. I firmly believe that people are creatures out of this world — each person is a world on their own. Each person is a book that I read in the process of transcribing their image on the canvas. Each individual is a cosmos in themselves. Other things inspire me also. Seashore inspires me to paint the glare of the sun in undulating waves. Oranges inspire me to paint in juicy colors. Fabric inspires me to study the patterns and folds. It is hard to think of a thing that does not inspire me to paint.

Q. What does your art mean to you?

My art means everything to me – it is how I process the world around me. I paint when I am in love, I paint when I am sad or stressed. I am practically never bored because no matter what is happening in my life, all I want is to put those feelings on canvas.
