Firuzeh is an Indie singer/songwriter based out of Pune, India. She released her debut single ‘What are you looking for’ in July 2019. It has been received well by people and since then she has been performing live at various gigs and events around Pune and Mumbai.
She has recently released her second single ‘Take Me to a Place’ in May 2021. The song talks about self-love and reflects the state of mind of the artist during last year’s lockdown. With the release of ‘Take Me to a Place’, Firuzeh reveals a more cultivated and evolved sound while keeping the lyrical vulnerability that has come to define her work.

Here is Firuzeh in a conversation with GOGO Magazine.

1) When did your journey as a musician begin?

Music has been with me all my life, since a young age I was into dance and singing and I’ve always wanted to pursue singing, so here I am. I’ve always had an inclination to sing and write songs from a young age and I love to do it so it doesn’t feel like work to me, it’s more like something I just have to do to have a normal day, I guess.

2) Tell us more about your experience while performing live gigs.

I’ve only recently started performing live and it’s been a real learning experience for me, from practicing to stage presence to interacting with people and sharing my songs with them has been quite a special experience. There is always space for learning and growing as an artist and being on stage is a big part of that.

3) Which has been your first track?

So, I’ve released my first single in July 2019, it’s called ‘What are you looking for,’ I was in college when I wrote that song and it talks about what we are looking for in people when we are together and how we as humans love to celebrate everything that we do. I was very fascinated with why people do what they do while I was writing this and so it’s a reflection of that.

4) Who has been your inspiration?

I would love to name all the artists I listen to and look up to but I would rather say that I find my inspiration in the way humans like to think and certain observations that are common or not among us. It’s the little things and the different ways we are all wired but have our own way of doing things, and also in the way, we as humans have the capacity to go through life and deal with it in our own way, for me all these fuels me up when I want to find inspiration.

5) Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

I would love to see myself with a lot more tracks released, maybe an album? I don’t know, we’ll see where that goes, but a constant thing in my life would be continuous growth and learning and creating meaningful songs to hold you like a friend in need. Also, I would like to start producing my songs from scratch, that would be a very interesting line that I would like to explore more in the near future.

6) Which has been your most memorable project or song?

Both the songs that I have released have been memorable to create. They both were made in different times of my life and the journey for both of them has been fun and special in their own way. Everyone involved in the making of both my songs has been very supportive and understanding and has helped me create what it is today, so just grateful for that.

7) Tell us about your latest track.

I’ve released ‘Take Me to a Place’, recently. It’s a song that came to life during the lockdown last year. It was written one night when I had a horrible day and was just mentally exhausted with everything that was happening in the world. I took my ukulele and poured myself out. Initially, I wasn’t even thinking of releasing any new music, but I changed my mind and thought of it as helping people relate to something that can help them grow through it and open a space of common ground where we can accept what has happened to us mentally and move on from that.

8) Share some of your achievements with the magazine.

So, ‘What are you looking for’, has crossed more than 20k streams overall, glad that people have been listening and showing love on that project. Also, both my songs have been featured in various playlists across Spotify, Gaana, Jio Saavan, and such… and recognized among various magazines, such as The Rolling Stone India, The Indian Music Diaries, A Humming Heart, The Score Magazine, and more!

9) How was life in quarantine?

It has been eye-opening and very challenging at the same time. Constant change has been the main factor for me. I’ve been trying to challenge myself to do more and be more conscious about what I’m doing.
