Delhi-based singer-songwriter Arnav Maggo began playing the guitar at age 13 and started to explore his artistic voice during his time at New York University. His music emphasizes the concept, vocal melodies, and guitar phrases in an ambient setting. His western approach brings out a unique flavor in his Hindi songs.
He moved back from New York where he was working in Finance to pursue a career in music. His message revolves around self-realization, fighting life’s stagnancy, and breaking monotony (be it in a relationship. job, or a mental state), which people of all ages strongly relate to in their own ways.
His influences include Radiohead, Mumford & Sons and Dire Straits.
Here is Arnav Maggo in a conversation with GOGO Magazine,
1) When did your journey as a musician begin?
I started playing the guitar when I was about 13 and have been heavily into playing and listening to music since then. I started exploring my artistic style and voice in high school and college in New York. The energy and the vibrant music scene there definitely shaped my interest more and introduced me to a number of possibilities. Eventually I started releasing music and have put out two songs so far with a few more in the pipeline.
2) Which was your first song?
My first song was It’s Hard Staying Apart. You can find it on all streaming platforms.

3) Has life changed after moving to New York?
Yes, the move has been quite exciting and liberating so far. I am enjoying the process of writing and recording songs and the fact that I am being able to do it full- time now is quite rewarding. I am also in the same city as my family now after a long time so that feels great.
4) Who has been your inspiration?
A lot of bands have inspired and influenced me over the years so it’s hard to pick one artist or even a genre. But these days I have been listening to a lot of Sia and Radiohead- I usually have phases with artists where I like to immerse myself in their catalog and go through all or most of their songs.
5) Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
I would like to have a catalogue of music that I am proud of, which touches different genres and styles because one of the things I want to do is to experiment with various styles and evolve with every passing year. I also want to have collaborated with different artists and made songs that people can eventually make their own and find a home for in their lives.
6) Which is your most preferred genre?
Currently I am really into ambient pop and have been focusing on it almost solely.
7) Tell us about your latest track.
My last track was Aa Chalein Hum Kahin- I wrote it about having been in a rut-like situation for a long time and finally looking around to realize that you are bound to stay forever if you don’t make a move soon. It’s been doing quite well which means that it resonates with people, which is great to know.

8) Tell us more about your upcoming projects?
I have a song in the pipeline called ‘Jo Tu Hai Yahan’ which I will be announcing soon.
9) How was life in quarantine?
For me, it was quite productive as I was able to be laser-focused on writing and recording songs. It also gave me the ability to think thoroughly about what I want to be doing and plan my career to an extent.
